On Wednesday, Paul McCartney released "New," the first single off the namesake album to be released in the UK on October 14 and in America the following day. It is his first album of originals since 2007's Memory Almost Full, and comes right after releasing the covers album Kisses on the Bottom in 2012. The single was produced by Mark Ronson (Amy Winehouse, Christina Aguilera) and it is Macca's most Beatlesque track in years.

"[The album] is very varied ... the songs weren't written but improvised," McCartney told BBC News. "I worked with four producers [Ronson, Ethan Johns, Paul Epworth, and Giles Martin, the son of Beatles producer George Martin] and each of them brought something different." About the song, he said it is "a love song but it's saying don't look at me I haven't got any answers. It says I don't know what's happening, I don't know how it's all happening, but it's good and I love you."

The album will be released by Hear Music, the label started in 2007 by Starbucks and Concord Music Group. That same year, McCartney became Hear Music's first signing, after leaving his long-time label EMI.
