Álvaro Del Norte, singer/accordionist for Piñata Protest, will be starving soon. Well, almost: starting tomorrow, November 5, Del Norte and 29 others will live on a strict bread and water diet until they raise $1,000 for Inner City Development, a non-profit Westside organization that helps the neighborhood's emergency, educational and recreational needs since 1968. The goal of Inner City's "Thanksgiving 365" program is to raise $30,000 before Thanksgiving; that is the amount needed to fund Inner City Development's Food Pantry for one year. It is projected that Inner City will serve more than 70,000 meals this year to families in crisis.

Other local figures whose bellies will be making all sorts of weird noises soon are Darryl Byrd, CEO of SA2020, Three Chord Media's Faith Radle (manager for Piñata Protest and Girl in a Coma), and Asia Ciaravino, CEO of The Playhouse San Antonio.

"In our experience, people are really generous to respond to the issue of hunger at Thanksgiving time," said Patti Radle, co-executive director of Inner City Development (and Faith's mother). "But then we see that emergency food pantries become challenged to stock the shelves after the season. Thanksgiving 365 is an effort to keep Inner City Development's food pantry stocked all year round and to raise the consciousness that hunger is not a Thanksgiving issue, but an issue all year round."

Contact event coordinator Ryan Haug at (210) 912-0176 or email him at ryan.haug@rackspace.com if you want to join the fast so that Inner City Development can reach their goal quicker.

Need an extra reason to help Álvaro? I'll give you three:

1. Previous Pinata Protest band members Omar Reyes Nambo and Víctor Luna lived and volunteered at Inner City for two years;

2. Pinata Protest used to practice there;

3. Piñata Protest plays with Misfits Thursday at Mission County Park 1, and we need Álvaro strong and well-fed.
