A relative newcomer to the North Saint Mary’s Strip, The Amp Room is kicking off its own lip sync battle on Monday, April 20.

Evoking the weird and wonderful shenanigans broadcasted on Spike TV’s Lip Sync Battle — a sight for sore eyes hosted by artistic savant LL Cool J — The Amp Room’s local incarnation of the program will spotlight eight competitors during a bracket-based competition.

Still searching for participants as of Tuesday, April 14, the venue is asking all hopefuls to prepare three or more songs for its showdown of musical fake outs.

After a series of qualifying challenges, each weekly winner is able to contend in a final fight for the lip-syncing championship on Monday, June 15.

While the Amp Room’s spectacle has yet to match the original lip sync-off that debuted on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, we can’t help but imagine the possibilities brewing in the hotbed of San Antonio’s nightlife. The testosterone-fueled bouncer crooning to Selena’s “Dreaming of You”; the perennial drunk guy slurring Amy Winehouse’s “Rehab”; a random white girl nailing Eazy-E’s “Boyz-n-the-Hood.”

Here’s hoping the Amp Room realizes the event’s potential for irreverent awesomeness.
