Marfa's Trans-Pecos Festival Announces Lineup

Posted By on Wed, Aug 5, 2015 at 1:25 PM

I've said it before and I'll say it again — I'll take pretty much any excuse to make a trip out to West Texas. By any definition, Marfa's Trans-Pecos Festival of Music and Love is a pretty exceptional excuse to slip out West for a weekend.

Founded by boutique campground/hotel El Cosmico, the 2015 festival features (among many others) Rilo Kiley frontwoman Jenny Lewis, arena-folk songwriter Matthew Houck (of Phosphorescent), Distrito Federal collective Mexican Institute of Sound and the astonishing bassist and jazz singer Meshell Ndegeocello. The schedule for the three-day festival is available here.

Other "alchemystical" offerings include a sandlot baseball game between Austin’s Texas Playboys and Marfa’s Los Yonke Gallos, the El Cosmetico tent parlor, bolo tie workshops and the beauty of the high Chihuahuan desert.

Tickets for El Cosmico's Trans-Pecos Festival of Music and Love cost $165. With camping permit, the price rounds up to $220. Unless you've got some homies among Marfa's population of 2,000, that camping option is probably a solid plan. As with most peak travel weekends, the reservations for El Cosmico's enviable tents and teepees are always-already booked.
