Before she was a futurist, world-class shredder, St. Vincent was a Texan. And like anyone born in the Lone Star state, there's an emotional/magnetic draw pulling at the heart whenever one leaves its borders.

In a video for art and culture channel Nowness, St. Vincent and director Alan Del Rio Ortiz explore the musician's gut appeal toward the state. Cruising around in rental cars under big skies in Marfa, St. Vincent enjoys the Chihuahuan landscape and sings the national anthem at a baseball game.

"Out here you can just exist," says St. Vincent, born in Dallas as Annie Clark. "Which is sometimes sort of scary, but you can just be here."
