Paper Tiger
, the venue on N. St. Mary's which took over the spot once belonging to the White Rabbit less than a year ago, will host one of the most revered rock 'n' roll acts of the last twenty years. The Murder City Devils, whose not-really-appreciated-until-we-broke-up-history has become a template for numerous modern bands, are scheduled to play the venue on Saturday, February 13. Tickets are available here.

Following the final release of the group's first incarnation, 2001's Thelema EP, the Devils called it quits, only to see their star begin to rise just as they were moving on to side projects and solo outfits. After much clamoring from their burgeoning fan base and several one-off, fly-in festival shows, last year the Devils released The White Ghost Has Blood on Its Hands Again (2014).

The release was a departure from the horror punk rock 'n' roll banner that the self-professed fags, weirdos and fem-lit devotees thrived under, sounding more like singer Spencer Moody's and guitarist Dann Gallucci's side projects, including Rabbit Ears, Dead Low Tide, Smoke and Smoke and Triumph of Lethargy Skinned Alive to Death. However, the LP was a natural progression for the band as Thelema saw the group moving away from the cut-and-dry foundations of their earlier works and more towards experimental prose and instrumentation.

Their live shows are infamous for being booze-fueled riots, complete with male-on-male make out sessions, thunderous sing-alongs and Moody reciting most of his lyrics in whichever order his addled brain sees fit. In short, they taught me and my generation much about the spirit of rock 'n' roll. I'm beyond excited to see the man with the preacher's mouth and the rock 'n' roll heart and the band that has penned brilliantly rudimentary songs about pissing off the tenth floor, being left behind for a saddle and a bottle of rye and the story of the left hand and right hand ... it's a story of love and hate. All I've got is love for these Devils.
