Morrissey Will Play the Tobin in November

Rejoice Moz fans! This morning, the all-time sadboy and The Smiths legend announced a world tour, including a gig at the Tobin Center on November 17. *That's according to multiple media reports and True to You, a Morrissey fanzine that confirmed the dates early Wednesday (the Tobin has yet to officially announce the date).

It’ll be a unique challenge for fans who want to engage in the tradition of bum-rushing the stage to hug the 59-year-old Englishman — there’s something a bit weird about trying to climb past security at such a proper venue.

The last time Morrissey visited San Antonio was in 2011, when he played the Majestic. Before that, the Moz played San Antonio just once, in 1992, at the Municipal Auditorium. Still, the indie rock icon has had an outsized influence on the city — resident stars Girl in a Coma pulled their name from The Smiths’ “Girlfriend in a Coma,” from the 1987 album Strangeways, Here We Come.

A true Morrissey fan should take this news with a grain of salt. In addition to being one of the most significant voices from the 1980s, the mononymic star has a tendency to cancel shows, including major legs of tours in 2013 and 2014. As insurance, light up a Moz veladora and pray that it never goes out.
