Satyricon, one of the bands who put Norwegian black metal on the map, will close out its final North American tour in Texas. But fans will need to drive to Austin instead of seeing them in metal-hungry S.A.

During its more than 25-year career, Satyricon helped push the uncompromising black metal genre away from murky sounding sonics by incorporating keyboards, atmosphere and melody. Some accused the band of commercial aspirations, but critics have lauded its releases for their consistent innovation.

The farewell tour doesn't mean the band is retiring, though, merely that the cost and logistical headaches — including obtaining visas — makes the U.S. market tough for live appearances, vocalist Satyr recently told Loudwire.

“[If] it wasn't for the fact that I know that there's still a lot of people in America that love our music and wholeheartedly support Satyricon, I would have called this off a long time ago," he said. "But, I said, 'Okay, instead of giving up on something that we all really spent a lot of time on, let's do it and try and break even and then let this be our last headlining tour of the United States.'”

Goatwhore, Whore of Bethlehem, Widower and Uruk open the Austin show.

$22-$26, Wed May 30, 7pm, Come and Take It Live, 2015 E Riverside Dr, Bldg 4, Austin, comeandtakeitproductions.com.
