Blues legend Buddy Guy and guitar powerhouse Jonny Lang are teaming up to perform live at the Majestic Theatre on Friday, May 18. If you’re a fan of guitar shreddery, then you’ll know how intense this lineup is.

At age 81, Buddy Guy is a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee and has earned a long list of accomplishments. The electric blues guitarist has received seven Grammy Awards, a 2015 Lifetime Achievement Grammy Award, 37 Blues Music Awards (the most any artist has received), the Billboard Magazine Century Award for distinguished artistic achievement, a Kennedy Center Honor and the Presidential National Medal of Arts. Rolling Stone Magazine ranked him #23 in its “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.” Also, he was a major influence on rock titans like Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Eric Clapton, who said Guy is the greatest guitar player ever. This ain’t no ordinary dude.

At 36, Jonny Lang has already had a successful career for two decades. It’s a little easier to believe when you find out his first platinum record came out when he was just 15. What began as a bluesy sound, influenced by electric pioneers like Albert Collins, B. B. King and Buddy Guy, evolved into a modern R&B style closer to Stevie Wonder and contemporary gospel music. Lang’s distinctive, blues-inflected licks appear on all his albums, but became one element in a sea of passionately sung and tightly arranged songs. Lang released a new studio album titled Signs in 2017, and even stopped by the Aztec Theatre not too long ago. So yeah, this is not a performance you want to miss.

$45-$89.50, Fri May 18, 8pm, Majestic Theatre, 224 E Houston St., (210) 226-5700,
