Hell’s coming to the Limelight, at least in the form of a pummeling black metal package tour. Formed in the mid-’80s, Italy’s Mortuary Drape have built a cult following by being one of the volatile scene’s longest-surviving outfits – and, to be honest, their deliciously over-the-top band photos probably didn’t hurt either. While the Drape’s speedy, riff-based sound harkens back to vintage thrash, its presentation is all about exulting the Dark One. Expect to see black cowls, corpse paint and upside-down crosses in abundance. Tour mates Volahn’s prickly guitar tone and blurred tempos evoke a more contemporary black metal sound. And bandleader Edward Ramirez, a key figure in California’s Black Twilight Circle of bands, draws inspiration not from Beelzebub but Aztec and Mayan mythology, so there’s that. Local act La Sanche’s blackened take on death metal will open the evening on an appropriately ominous tone.

$17-$20, Sun Jul 1, 8pm, Limelight, 2718 N. St. Mary’s St., thelimelightsa.com.
