With all the politics being shoved down our throats via social media, TV and even entertainment, sometimes it’s nice to have a break from it all, put two middle fingers up and yell “Fuck it!” at the top of your lungs.

San Antonio punk/thrash outfit Violent Practice have managed to encapsulate this mood on their newest song “Surfin’,” which comes with a pretty gnarly video featuring a healthy does of sidewalk surfin’ and good time havin’.

Shot and produced in Corpus Christi from You’re Invited TV producer Scott Newman (who has created videos with the likes of Wayne Holtz and Alyson Alonzo), the video starts off with guitarist Eric Blair waking up a little drunk from the night before on a beach with his back covered in sand.

After stumbling over something buried in the sand, Blair digs up a crucifix-shaped skateboard, holds it up to the sky and magically transforms into Jesus. Jesus then starts shredding all over Corpus Christi, including the skatepark where Violent Practice is performing.

Shots of local skateboarders criss-cross between the band pummeling through the fun two-minute track.

“We really wanted to show the beauty of Corpus,” Violent Practice Drummer Joseph Briones told the Current through Facebook Messenger. “Last time we toured and played Corpus we stopped by the skate park before the show for a session and realized how beautiful it was – kinda just figured it would be a good spot to film “Surfin’.”

Briones explained that the Jesus concept just randomly came in while making props for their first video.

“We have a giant cross made out of broken skateboards and thought it would be funny to see Jesus skating it,” said Briones. “So we made a smaller cross board for him to skate.”

Briones also told the Current that director Scott Newman really captured the vibe they were trying to put out.

“Scott did amazing – I don’t think anyone else’s could have pulled it off,” said Briones. They wanted to put good content that reflects their lifestyle since vocalist Adrian Cardenas and guitarist/Jesus Eric Blair are always skating and Briones himself grew up surfing with his Dad.

Overall, the vibe of the video is laid back and playful – just a bunch of dudes rocking out with Jesus skateboarding and other skaters shredding that sicky gnar gnar.
