“Light cannot exist without darkness. Each has its purpose. And if there's a purpose to my darkness, maybe it's to bring some balance to the world.”

While that quote came from a fictional serial killer named Dexter Morgan from the hit Showtime show Dexter, there is some truth to it and maybe this is why some musicians are drawn to the spooky, macabre, moody and melancholy.

Whatever the reason for covering subject matter, ex-Bauhaus vocalist Peter Murphy wrapped his listeners up in his carefree baritone crooning and, in a way, let us be okay with dancing through our own darkness.

The “Godfather of Goth” is headed to San Antonio next year in celebration of 40 years of Bauhaus along with Ruby Celebration featuring David J for a performance at Paper Tiger on Friday, February 1.
