Metallica Donates $100K to Texas College

One Texas college will likely be blasting Metallica when classes resume. That's because it received a $100,000 donation from the heavy metal band.

Lone Star College in The Woodlands was one of ten community colleges throughout the country to be awarded 100 grand from Metallica's All Within My Hands foundation.

Funds will go toward supporting students taking courses for "traditional" trades as well as applied learning programs. According to a press release, the funds will directly help more than 1,000 students.
"All of us in the band feel fortunate that music has provided us the opportunity to be successful doing something we are passionate about," said drummer Lars Ulrich. "We want to share our success with others so that they can find a job where they can do the same."

Lone Star College was the only Texas campus to land a Metallica grant. Students at selected colleges in North Carolina, Oregon, Illinois, Maryland, Wisconsin, Michigan, Idaho, Washington and Kansas will also benefit from the band's contribution.
