11 Reasons to 'Enter the Snake Clan'

While reading Manly Palmer Hall’s mystical, 1920s-era magnum opus The Secret Teachings of All Ages and watching “a ton of kung fu movies,” local artist and educator Angela Fox concocted a narrative that led her to Enter the Snake Clan, a meticulously rendered zine surrounding mystery cults and initiation rites. Taking cues from films in which “the actor’s fighting style is named after and mimics the style of a creature,” Fox chose a slithering snake as mascot for her “tightly knit gang” and looked to Greek vases to find potential “tasks that an initiate takes on in order to become a hero or member of the clan.”

Enter the Snake Clan sells for $8 and can be purchased directly from the artist by emailing [email protected]
