The Puerto Rican Heritage Society (PRHS) invites San Antonio to attend the 14th Puerto Rican Festival "Fiestas Patronales" at the SA Shrine Auditorium. Our Festivals are considered the largest and oldest Puerto Rican artistic and cultural event in the state of Texas. Local artists and craftsmen, as well as renowned artisans from Puerto Rico, will share their skills and talents with Festival attendees. This year, the artisans arriving from the island will present work done on wood, birds' feathers, paper mache, jewelry, etc. highlighting tropical flora and fauna, characteristic of the Caribbean island. There will be a folklore dance presentation by a local Puerto Rican troupe and dance music will be provided by three Latin bands (Trabuko, Colao, Isis, the Voice) that offer Caribbean sounds and rhythms. Traditional Puerto Rican food and refreshments will be offered for sale throughout the entire event. For the first time, the San Antonio Zoo will be exhibiting the Coqui at the Festival. Everyone is captivated by these little brown frogs and their song. The Coqui are the national symbol of Puerto Rico.
