The Animal Defense League of Texas, a no-kill shelter located 11300 Nacogdoches Road, has several dogs that are currently looking for a forever home. Check out the dogs that are currently available and just try saying no to adopting one of these cuties. It's basically impossible. All photos are courtesy of the Animal Defense League of Texas.

"This is my best pleading look because I really want to go to my forever home. I don’t usually look this way – I’m actually a very happy young guy, full of kisses and wags for everyone who comes by. Let’s just say I know what I want and I know how to get it. I love to play and snuggle and do whatever you want as long as I can be with you. Please come by and I’ll show you how easily you can fall in love."
Winnie
"I’m not shy, but I’ve been through a lot so I’m scared. I wag my tail a lot and show friendliness toward everyone, but I just don’t want to go anywhere because I don’t know what’s going to happen next. Some nice people saved me from the streets and kept me for a couple of weeks before bringing me here, and they say when I was with them I played with other dogs and kids and was energetic, friendly and playful. You might not see that in me right now, but once I get comfortable, I’m sure all those traits will come back. If you give me a chance, I’m sure you won’t be disappointed."
Clyde
"Happy-go-lucky is my middle name. Well, it could be. I haven’t a care in the world. I’m just a puppy doing puppy things, playing and exploring and having a good time. Cats and dogs are all my friends, and though I’ve never met a child, I bet I’d like them too. The only thing I’m missing is a forever home with a yard to play in and a family that loves me. Would you be my family?"
Hank
"You’ll probably want to call me Hank the Cowdog, but I’m not that Hank. I’m a cattle dog, not a Cowdog, and I’m not nearly as adventurous as Hank the Cowdog. I’m not shy about people, but I’m just a little bit shy about new situations. Or maybe I’m just Hank the Quiet Dog. There was a lot going on the day I was having my picture taken, between being new to this place and a thunderstorm brewing, so maybe I was just being Hank the Overwhelmed Dog. I do like people, and I’m well-behaved and sweet. I would love to be Hank Your Dog.">

"I’m a big guy, but I’m well-behaved and quite handsome, if I do say so. I don’t have much of a tail, but what’s there wags a lot and I don’t drag you around on the leash or jump on you. I’m a lover, not a fighter, and when you stand still you’re likely to feel a large dog leaning against you – that would be me. I get along well with other dogs, so if you want to take me home and you already have a dog, I say the more the merrier! Let’s go!"
Jaxon
"If there were an Olympics for dogs, I’d have a room full of gold medals for my gymnastic skills, or maybe for the high dive. When I’m in my kennel and want to attract attention, I like to jump several feet up the side wall and bounce sideways in a twist and stick the landing. It’s quite impressive. It makes me look like I’d be hard to handle, but when I come out, I’m sweet and gentle. I’m learning to sit, I lean against you to show affection, and I’m known as a super-fun guy. And I can be all yours but you’ll need to come and visit me first!"
Stanley
"Everyone loves a golden retriever, right? I’m a sweet, lovable dog who can be strong, but I’m generally well-behaved. That’s a good thing, because I have a special problem and I deserve a special home with special people who will take care of me. You see, I came here with a very bad heartworm infection. That’s all gone now, but it left me with heart and lung damage that can make me cough and give me breathing problems if I overexert myself or get overheated. So I need to stay inside most of the time and not overdo things. I feel great though, and I look forward to my new life. I’d love for it to be with you."
Star
"Look into my eyes…you are getting sleepy…you will do what I say…you will come to my kennel and take me home…. You don’t really need to be hypnotized to fall in love with me, because I am a very sweet girl who adores kids, enjoys dogs who are calm like me and enjoys visiting with everyone. I know sit and stay. Unfortunately, I also know how to jump fences, so I need a home with at least an 8-foot fence. But I’m worth it!"
Ava
"I’m such a happy girl that you would never think I had been through tough times in my life. Besides the fact that I don’t have a true forever home yet, I also had a battle with cancer. It wasn’t easy, but thanks to the help of the ADL hospital staff, I am now a cancer survivor! Now I can playfully romp around and be my energetic happy self. I’m very friendly, and I give out hugs instantly to new people that I meet. I’m a big girl with a big heart filled with lots of love to give. Overall, I’d make a loyal companion to a loving person and I hope that person can be you."
Roger
"I am a master of disguise. I bet you think I’m a Dalmatian, don’t you? See, I fooled you! If I turned my head to the side, you’d see the distinctive shape of my muzzle and realize that instead, I am a bull terrier — or at least partly. OK, I probably have Dalmatian in me too. I don’t, however, disguise the fact that I’m very wiggly, energetic and full of fun. Whatever mix I am, I am 100 percent adorable and ready for you to take me home!"

Can you imagine my scruffy little body curling up next to you? I am sweet, calm, and gentle. I don’t mind being carried and I walk well on the leash. I was found as a stray and all I want now is to spend the rest of my life with a person who will love me forever. If you’re looking for a calm little furry friend to be your roommate, then I’ll be perfect for you!
Shelby
"Do you like to take long walks? Do you need a companion? Then I’m your dog! I love long walks and I’m quite good at them. I don’t tug on the leash – I just stroll along at your pace, happy as can be. I was originally adopted from ADL a few years back but I was surrendered to a shelter in Oklahoma. ADL found out and a very nice volunteer offered to drive all the way to Oklahoma to save me. I probably would have been euthanized but thanks to that wonderful volunteer I am now back at ADL searching for my forever home. I have a calm, sweet personality and I look to your eyes to see what you expect of me. I’ve had training and I can do the sit, down and fetch commands (I especially like the fetch one!), and I bet I can learn more if you teach me."
Augie
I’m an energetic, happy little (and I do mean little) guy whose antics will keep you laughing. Some of those antics involve the part of me right under my curly tail hitting the ground and bouncing back up again, but I can’t help it. The kneecaps on my back legs won’t stay in place and it makes my back half fall a lot, but I don’t even notice. I might need surgery later if it gets worse, but right now I’m just a normal Chihuahua who should probably spend a little more time cuddling and a little less time running – which is fine with me. All I need is a loving human to cuddle with me!
Betty
"When you hear the name Betty, what do you think of – Betty Crocker, the perfect homemaker? Betty Boop, the sexy but innocent flapper? Or Betty White, the rascally senior actress? I have a bit of all those in me. Even though I’m energetic, friendly and happy like Betty Boop, I’m well-behaved like Ms. Crocker. I doubt she was ever on a leash, but if she were, I’m sure she’d walk as nicely as I do. I’m not anywhere near senior status – I’m quite young, in fact – but I have a Betty White twinkle in my eye and I hope to be like her when I’m her age in dog years. I’d also like to be with you."
Cooper
"Sure, gold and silver are nice, but I bet you can guess what I think is better. And once you meet me, you’ll agree. I’m not exactly soft and malleable like the metal – in fact, I’m pretty strong and active or my age – but I know how to be calm and well-behaved too. I just have a zest for life that shows in everything I do. Sometimes it shows as a kind of goofiness, like when I suddenly drop and roll over on my back, begging for a belly rub. I do need some special care because of a chronic kidney problem that requires medication, special food and keeping an eye out to make sure everything stays good. But I feel great and I sure would love to go home with you."
