The Animal Defense League of Texas, a no-kill shelter located 11300 Nacogdoches Road, has several dogs that are currently looking for a forever home. Check out the dogs that are currently available and just try saying no to adopting one of these cuties. It's basically impossible. All photos are courtesy of the Animal Defense League of Texas.

"I know I’m a handsome boy and people naturally gravitate towards me. It’s rough for me though, because I don’t know how to handle attention from humans. I get very shy and bashful. You can pick me up and I’ll probably freeze and remain stiff in your arms. I break out of my shell when I’m around other dogs, but I don’t want to be so timid around people anymore. I’m going to need a very loving and patient person in my life to teach me how to open up and relax. I’m sure within time, I will loosen up in my forever home. Do you have it in your heart to provide that special home for me?"
Marmalade

"I’m often told that I’m beautiful. I hope you agree! When I first arrived to ADL about 98% of my hair was gone due to demodex mange. It wasn’t easy for me to deal with, but I’m so happy that the hospital staff at ADL helped me get through it. Now it’s hardly noticeable that I was ever missing hair. That’s why I like to show off my beautiful coat and beneath this coat is a big heart! I’m sweeter than the marmalade fruit preserves and have an instinct to shower everyone with hugs and kisses. Overall, I’m a joyous gal to have around! I prefer to be the only furbaby in a home but if another dog is calm enough, I’d probably be okay with sharing a home with them. I hope to find someone that will love me forever and I hope that person will be you!"
Christie

"You’ve heard that Australian cattle dogs are smart, right? Well, I am, I can tell you that. I’m just a puppy, and a pretty typical one at that, full of playfulness and affection above all else, but when I went to have my picture taken I had a chance to show off my brains. They put this thing around my neck that wasn’t a regular leash – it was a loop and leash together so when I tried to run ahead it got tighter. It surprised me and then I refused to move. But then the nice lady called me and I came to her and I realized that if I walked nicely near her the loop stayed loose. So right away I learned how to use it and we had a good time. See how fast I learn? Wouldn’t you love a smart puppy like me?"
Cliff

"I’m a bit on the enthusiastic side, but that’s only because I’m such a happy boy. I love everyone and everything and I love to show it. I know life is great because I’ve been with the same family my whole life, but now they are moving and they can’t take me with them. So they brought me here and promised me I’d find another great family that would love me like they did. I get along well with other dogs and kids, I’ve had training and I sit and fetch, I don’t bark a lot. I’m a good boy and I’m really excited about my new life. So, when do we start?"
Freeway

"Bet you can guess how I got my name. Yup, I was found on a freeway. Being a dog, without much of a memory, I don’t know if I ran away or was let loose or what, but there I was, on Loop 410, a pretty scary place for a smallish dog like me. Fortunately, a kind human rescued me and brought me here to find a forever home. I do love to run and play, but I’m quite calm and sweet when I’m visiting with people. I give nice kisses, and I seem to do well with children. All I want is another chance to be a family dog. I hope you’ll give it to me."
Lucky

"I am indeed lucky to have such magnificent ears, don’t you think? Not to mention such unique markings on my handsome face. But as they say, beauty is only skin deep; personality goes all the way through, and I am full of it. At least I heard someone say I’m full of it… anyway, I’m an energetic young dog and I can be a handful on the leash, but I’m getting better at learning to calm down when I’m supposed to. I really want to be good so I can find my forever home and earn my name in every way."
Luke

"’m sure that you’ll instantly gravitate towards my welcoming personality. I’m affectionate, friendly, and playful. I’m all smiles when I’m around a crowd of folks. I get along with almost everyone such as kids and dogs. If you’re looking for a happy companion to be active with, then please give me a chance to impress you. Come by and visit me!"

"Beagles are known for their energy, and even though I’m only part beagle, I’m no exception. I’m a very playful boy with lots of get-up-and-go, and even though I’m 8, I’ll keep you young at heart like I am. But I’m also a lover, known for my sweetness. Any time you’re sitting, I’m likely to hop into your lap and start kissing your face. The only thing I don’t love is cats. That’s just the way it is. I sure would love to have a forever home where I could play and love and be loved again."
Musuhu

"I’m full of friendliness and fun! I’d be more than happy to go for a stroll in the park with you, but hold on tight because I sometimes forget how strong I can be. Especially if I spot a cat, it’s probably best to keep me away from those critters. I’m also a curious one, so I like to inspect my surroundings while I’m out on the grounds. I do well in a vehicle so if you want to take me for a ride, I’ll jump in with no problem. If you feed me snacks, I’ll very gently take them from your hand. I like kids so I would make a great family pet! I hope that I can find that family to take me home soon!"
Norville

"If you look in the dictionary under “puppy,” you might find a picture of me. I’m about as typical a puppy as there is. When I’m on the ground, I want to run around and play and put everything in my mouth. When you get near me, I want to jump on you and kiss you and love you and make sure you don’t leave me. I’m soft and lovable and sweet and adorable and once you meet me you won’t ever want to leave me either. At least I hope you don’t, because I want to go home and be somebody’s puppy. Please?"

"I am big and somewhat of a handful, but that’s just because I get so excited to see people when I’m in a kennel all day. I’m really a very sweet boy and I love people of all sizes a lot. I was a stray and a nice family took me in and kept me while they were waiting for an opening here, and they said lots of nice things about me. They say I know how to walk nicely on a leash but that I need a yard because I need a lot of exercise. I play well with children – I was very good with their 3-year-old and would kiss her when she hugged my neck and leaned all over me. I would lie quietly next to the girl’s mother while she worked or cooked. I’m a great family dog and I really want another family to love. Here I am – come get me!"

"Won’t you please take me home and love me? This is my best pleading face, and it’s hard for me to keep on because I’m a happy, friendly boy who isn’t used to looking serious. If you come visit me, you’ll see me smiling and wagging my tail and trying to kiss you instead, so this is my one chance to make you feel sorry for me. I like dogs and children, and I’m even-tempered and affectionate. I know sit and fetch, and I’m friendly to everyone I meet. So let’s meet!"
Rufus

"Am I a handsome boy or what? But I’m not just another pretty face. I know the sit, down and stay commands and I do them very well. When I’m not showing off my talents, you can usually find me splashing in my pool or playing with other dogs, kids or adults. I suppose you could say keeping busy is another of my skills. So is being a bit of a clown – you might have noticed I’m sticking my tongue out ever-so-subtly in my photo. Just think how much fun your life will be with me as a part of it."
Sabrina

"Don’t I look proud to have a friend next to me and happy to be getting petted? I am, but it took a lot to let down my guard so it would happen. I’m a friendly girl, but I’m new here and it’s hard not to be scared every time something new happens. I’m really looking forward to finding my forever home so I can get comfortable once and for all and just love my new family and know they love me."
Betty

"When you hear the name Betty, what do you think of – Betty Crocker, the perfect homemaker? Betty Boop, the sexy but innocent flapper? Or Betty White, the rascally senior actress? I have a bit of all those in me. Even though I’m energetic, friendly and happy like Betty Boop, I’m well-behaved like Ms. Crocker. I doubt she was ever on a leash, but if she were, I’m sure she’d walk as nicely as I do. I’m not anywhere near senior status – I’m quite young, in fact – but I have a Betty White twinkle in my eye and I hope to be like her when I’m her age in dog years. I’d also like to be with you."
