What is a home without a furry one to make you smile and keep you company? Incomplete, at least to us.

Pay the Animal Defense League of Texas a visit and choose a cute cat or adorable dog to take home and have all to yourself. You won't be able to say no once you're there.

"Hola, me llamo Señor! It’s great to see you and hopefully be able to meet you. I am as lucky as they come; before I came into ADL I had the roughest time out on my own. I was surprised at how bad I was; I was told that I had been struggling with severe dermatitis, ear mites, and hair loss from sarcoptic mange. I know sounds horrible right! Well on top of all that, I was told, I had entropion which is a condition where my eyelids fold inwards causing me great discomfort. And as one condition kept coming after another I was also told that I had been diagnosed with FIV. As you might imagine, when I came in, I was quite the grumpy whiskers especially since I could barely see the humans around me! But now, I am soooooo much better and I feel soooo happy! Estoy muy muy muy feliz! I really would love to put all this crazy past experience behind me and find a forever home where I can find a forever family to love me and enjoy all my antics and my Spanish. I do have to go with another furry friend that either has FIV or would have to be an only cat. We should get to know each other better so we can learn all about one another!"
Armin
"I’m a rowdy young dog, still growing and maturing and overflowing with puppy energy. I love running and playing, and splashing in water, especially in summer, is the greatest! I need an owner who’s experienced in taking care of dogs like me – dogs with good hearts who love being busy all the time and want to learn how to be good boys. Just like most youngsters, I can throw quite a temper tantrum when I get frustrated, so I need to learn to channel my energy. I bet I’d be great at sports like agility or frisbee. Will you be the one who helps me?"
Nicolette
“I am a lady who loves to go for good long walks but the Texas weather can be a bit too much at times for me so I love a good cold floor to lay on when it’s just too hot outside. I enjoy riding in cars and being with my human friends but I am respectful and try not to lay on the seats. I love meeting new people and getting to know them because there’s nothing better than getting new friends! I am hoping to meet you sometime soon so we can be a forever family!”
Louise
"Let me just be honest: I’m going to “nope” out of any situation because I’m an extremely shy cat. I’m very timid and prefer to keep to myself. That doesn’t mean there isn’t perfect person out there to help me grown in confidence. Is that person you?"
Bartholomew
"Hi, I’m Bartholomew! I’m a bashful kitty who’s just looking for someone to give me a chance to be their friend. You may need to ask the staff to see me because I’m pretty good at the game of hide-n-seek but I would like to meet you. When I first came to ADL, my eye was hurt so it needed to be removed. I’m feeling much better now but I’m more than ready to find a calm loving home of my own. Since I like to take it easy, I’d prefer a home where I can relax most of the day. Please give an oldie but goodie like me a chance to be yours!"
Bologna
"Hi, I’m Bologna! Not to be confused with detective McGruff the Crime Dog! A lot of people say I look like a short version of him. However, I won’t be working on taking a bite out of crime but I may work on taking a bite out of a dog biscuit! The only detective work I really like to do is scoping out my surroundings because I’m a curious boy. I typically stroll casually on the leash while I check out my surroundings. I’m just a chill dog with a big Boxer type head on a Basset Hound body. Please visit me to get to know me better!"
Dillon
"Hello there! You know what I adore? Stuffed animals, chatting, and playtime! I am an enthusiastic and sociable k9 who likes to goof around. I have a dynamic personality that may be too much for some pups to handle. That’s why I would like to meet any potential fur-siblings to see how well we get along. I’m a nice guy who would fit in best with an active family with older children. If you’re looking for a fun furry friend, then give me a chance!"
Calie
"Hi, I’m Calie! I came here to ADL with my sister Chloe. We’re both a bit shy at the moment but that’s only because we’ve spent the past 14 years in a home together and suddenly we’re here! Unfortunately, our owner passed away and now we’re on a journey to find our new home. We are often attached at the hip because we really love each! We’d really like to find a home where we can continue to be loved and stay together. Will you give us a chance to be yours?"
Theodore
"The look I have in my photo is pretty much always on my face. I am always smiling and happy! I have a short tail so I am more of a wiggle butt than a tail wagger. I like to play and am pretty much guaranteed to keep you happy and laughing if I could join your family. I am also a gorgeous color, too, and it is all over my body. What a good boy I am!"
Sashi Marie
"Don’t you think I’m beautiful? There is so much of me to love, and I have so much love to give! I’m on a weight-loss journey, as they like to say here, but even when I reach the end of it, I won’t have lost any of that love – it will just be concentrated in a smaller package. I am full of sweetness, and hugs are my specialty. Sniffing around while on walks is lots of fun. I’m not supposed to have treats, but I will sit on command anyway. Wouldn’t it be great to help me go from full-figured to petite?"

Ninja
"Hi, I’m Ninja! My most advanced ninja skills include quietly sneaking around, leaping, and hiding. Although, I wouldn’t say that I have the greatest hiding skills. Sometimes my attempts at “hiding” involve me facing a wall and hoping that I’m invisible to everyone. You see, I’m actually an extremely bashful ninja. I’m currently in a room filled with other kitties and random people that come and go. Being the shy kitty that I am, I prefer to hide up top away from the action. I look forward to finding a calm home with a special person who’ll look past my terrible hiding skills and love me no matter what."
Leena
"First I’ll tell you the negatives and get them out of the way. Yes, I have an underbite. No hiding that, and who’d want to? People love dogs with an underbite! I have the best underbite in the world! My other flaw, if you can call it that, is that I’m deaf, but that just means I don’t bark at every little sound, so that’s a big plus, too! It’s easy to train a deaf dog with hand signals. There are lots of books and websites about it. Everything else about me is wonderful. I’m still pretty much a puppy, so I’m lots of fun. I love to play and run around and generally just have a good time. I adore looking around and watching all the things happening around me, learning about my world. And I’m very friendly to everyone. So give a perfect girl a chance – adopt me!"
Elsa
"Hi, I’m Elsa! Or you can call me Queen Elsa! I am a big jolly gal who is always wearing eyeliner. I have to admit, I don’t have the best leash skills, I forget that I can be powerful and tug on the leash a lot. I love to be around people but I can be picky with my K9 friends. As for cats, I’m just not fond of those critters. Since I’ve come to ADL, I’ve been treated for heartworms and the people in the hospital believe it caused me to have a heart murmur. This heart of mine is still strong and has a lot of love to give! I’ll just need to take it easy and be sure to not over exert myself. I wouldn’t mind lounging on a couch with my best friend. If you’re interested in making me your best friend and can handle a big doggy like me, then let’s meet!"
Bellatrix
"Don’t worry the only spell I will cast on you is for you to love me, I’m not evil sorceress, I’m just a spicy tabby. I love attention but only from humans. I absolutely do not like other cats so it would be best if I am the only cat in the home. that home should be yours. Come get me today so I don’t have to put a spell on you!"
Katana
"I am an affectionate and playful goofball! I like to be around people and I prefer a home where I’m the only furbaby in the family. Sometimes my attention span is a little short when I’m outside for a walk because I like to check out all the action going on at ADL. I want to find an active person that I can go on adventures with and someone who will cherish me forever!"
Archie
"Hi, I’m Archie! I sometimes get a bit bashful in my kennel but once I’m out I feel better! I have excellent leash manners and will walk right by your side. I am looking for a loving home where I can lay back and relax with my person. If you have a furry friend for me, then I’d like to have a meet and greet with them first. Please visit me and consider giving me a chance to be your pal!"
Junebug
"I’m a sweetheart of a soul. I am very good with people of all ages, and other cats too! I’ll fill your home with so much love and joy. I love getting affection, rub my chin and I’m all yours. Let’s meet to see if I’m your diamond in the rough!"
Sadie
"Hello! I am the curious Sadie! I like to check out everything going on around me. I am gentle older lady and have excellent leash walking manners. I like to relax most of the day but just because I’m a senior doesn’t mean that I don’t know how to have fun! I love playtime and being outdoors. I like to play with toys and I really enjoy splashing around in the kiddie pool! All I want is to be around people and I would especially love to be around you. Please visit me so that I can show you how wonderful I am!"
Gwen
"Hello, I am a little shy when meeting new friends, but if you come up to me to show me, love, I will show you love right back! I also like to teach people about me! Did you know that black cats coat can rust? As of right now I am solid black, but as I get older it might change."
Jackson
"I am full of lots and lots of energy and love to play tug-a-war. I am told that I am very smart because I know sit, lay, stay, and leave it. I am a bit scared of strangers so the commands might not register as quickly but once we get to know one another and get each other’s vibes I’m sure we will be playing and jiving."
