20 Adoptable Dogs Looking for a Family This Holiday Season
By San Antonio Current Staff
The Animal Defense League of Texas, a no-kill shelter here in San Antonio, has several dogs that are looking for a forever home. Check out the dogs currently available and just try saying no to adopting one of these cuties. It's basically impossible. All photos from the Animal Defense League of Texas.
"I’m going to wiggle it out when I meet you. I’m so happy that my body can’t stop wiggling and my tail can’t stop wagging. I really enjoy meeting new people. I just burst with enthusiasm. I’ll make my new family so happy because I’m just so joyful. I’m warning you that my enthusiasm is contagious. Oops, too late, I already infected you. Now the only cure is to come take me home today!"
"Giddy-up, Rawhide and strap in for a wild ride! I have so much energy built up in me that I go a little crazy when I get out of my kennel. I jump as high as high as my leash will let me, run as fast as you let me and just cause some mayhem. All in good fun, of course! One thing for sure you’ll never get bored when you’re with me. So if you feel like your life has been a little dull and you’re looking for some adventure then come let me brighten your world today!"
"I may not be a famous chemist who devised the periodic table but I’m pretty special. I’m a Hurricane Harvey dog. That means that the Animal Defense League traveled to the shelter I was in looking for a home before the storm and brought me back to find a home in San Antonio. I’ve got to say I feel like an SA dog and now I just need my forever home to come find me!"
"As the great Hercules once said, 'a true Hero isn’t measured by the size of his strength, but by the strength of his heart.' I must admit, in this big 64 lb. body of mine is a big heart! And let me tell you how I saved a Hurricane Harvey pet. I was already in a shelter in Rosenberg looking for a home before Harvey came through. Rosenberg was hit pretty hard by Harvey. After the hurricane, ADL worked with the shelter I was at and brought me, along with many other pets, to San Antonio. The plan was for us pets to clear up spots for pets displaced by Harvey. I’m happy that I could open a spot for another pet in need. I’m a very active and playful guy! I enjoy going out for walks and running around being my playful and goofy self. Now I hope that I can continue to spread my joy and affection. I’m ready to be a heroic furry friend to a family of my own."
"As you can see, I had an eye removed. It wasn’t doing me any good anyway, since I couldn’t see out of it, so I don’t mind. I’m a happy-go-lucky kind of guy, always ready to play. I love toys and treats and would love an active family that likes to keep busy. I’m smart too – I can sit, shake and fetch on command, especially if I know there’s a treat waiting for me. If you love to play as much as I do, please come see me – I’ll be right here waiting and wagging!"
"You can’t tell by this handsome face but I have something in common with 90 million Americans. I have heart disease. Mine was caused by heartworms that I’ve undergone treatment for. Please don’t let that scare you because I’m a friendly boy and oh so cute! I deserve a second chase in a forever home, don’t you agree?"
"James is a royal name and being a mastiff means I come from royal blood. I’m very stoic and kingly unless you show me a treat. I love treats so much I unleash my goofy side to get you to give them to me. I’m possessive of my food and will guard it so it’s best I go home with a family with children 12 year and up. So if you’re looking for a king who can get down and be goofy then look no further than me!"
"When you come to my kennel, I’ll happily run to the door and greet you with wags and enthusiasm, overflowing with happiness and friendliness. But when staff takes me out to meet you, you’ll hardly recognize the shy, reluctant dog at the end of the leash. I don’t remember what happened before I came here, but I’m just so scared that it takes a long time for me to trust people. I don’t have an ounce of meanness in me – I just need someone with patience to wait for me to be ready to share my love. When that time comes, I enjoy cuddling and I’m as sweet as can be. If you have the time, the rewards are great – I promise!"
"I need you today. Please come and give, without taking. I’m looking for my Manilow to write songs about me and love me! I am a little shy, but a kind, patient person could really bring me out of my shell. If you want someone to sing love songs to, I’m the perfect dog for you!"
Denise "Hi, I’m Denise! My ears are so big they didn’t even fit in the photo! I’m an energetic young gal and I’m ready to go on adventures! I get along with all people and dogs too. I like to go for walks and check out everything around me. I’m ready to find that person who’ll love me forever. Do you think you can be that person?"
