Twice a year, Round Top and a cluster of small towns around it get invaded by an antiques fair that resembles South by Southwest in several ways: there's amazing stuff around every corner; people travel from all over to be part of it; every hotel for miles is booked months in advance; dense crowds render cell phones practically useless; bumper-to-bumper traffic turns two-mile trips into hour-long crawls; and it gets bigger each year with no end in sight. As discouraging as some of that may sound, the whole experience is oddly addictive and that particular stretch of Texas can be spectacular when the weather cooperates.
