30 Poems for the Tricentennial

In one of the coolest Tricentennial projects to date, Gemini Ink and the San Antonio Department Of Arts and Culture have teamed up to offer a special, inter-arts look at our city’s history and culture. Earlier in the year, poets were invited to submit a poem that fit thematically with one of the following timeframes: the Pre-Columbian era or Yanaguana (prior to 1718), the Spanish Colonial Period (1718-1809), Mexican era (1810-1836), Texas Nation era (1836-1846), San Antonio: Crossroads City (1846-1946), and Modern Times (1947-2017). From those submissions, 30 poems were selected, and then local artists were chosen to provide visual interpretations of the poems. The results of this multi-generational, poetic/artistic historical exploration, billed as 30 Poems for the Tricentennial: A Poetic Legacy, will be on display at the Culture Commons Gallery through April 25, 2019, beginning with an opening reception this week. In addition to the exhibition, a free chapbook featuring the work of the poets and artists is available in the gallery.
