Family Flick: Nacho Libre

Outdoor films in collaboration with Slab Cinema presents Nacho Libre. The film begins at sundown. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and picnics. In the case of inclement weather, the film will be cancelled. Pets are not permitted on the Museum campus; however, service animals are permitted at the Museum. The film is suggested for ages 11 and up. Nacho is a monastery cook who spends his day feeding orphans and being overlooked by the monastery. When Sister Encarnación arrives at the monastery, Nacho realises that the only way to win her affection and to save the children will be by competing as a Luchador wrestler. (210) 978-8100

Teen Workshop: Comic Splash Page Collage (Ages 11-17)

Boom! Pow! Blam! Come learn how to make your stories pop in this comic book collage workshop! After visiting our special exhibition Men of Steel, Women of Wonder, compose your own superhero narrative in one scene using comic-artist styles and techniques. Participants will also be invited to screen print their own souvenir tote bag or poster. Teen workshops are led by professional artist-educators and include a tour in the museum, instruction in a variety of art techniques and media. Fee covers all materials. The National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures presents a keynote lecture by Gonzalo Casals focusing on arts, culture, equity and inclusion. Casals leads the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art in New York City, the world's only museum dedicated to preserving and exhibiting LGBTQ artwork. He has previously worked with Friends of the High Line, El Museo del Barrio and as a consultant with the City of New York's cultural planning efforts and work on monuments.
