Ácenar is not Mi Tierra with a snazzier paint job. With the exception of some slick color photos of nibbled galletas, paletas, and dulces - and maybe the noise level - there's not much at all in the highly charged interior that suggests Tex-Mex, classic or contemporary. In fact, the clever use of a molcajete grid on the patio takes us back to a much earlier era.;;The same might be said for the menu: It's divided into San Antonio Tex-Mex Favorites and Ácenar Specialties, and it's not clear at first glance whether the SA favorites are alleged to be updated, or if all the tweaking took place in the specialties section. The view from the observation deck of the 750-feet-tall Tower of the Americas is inspiring, and ought to be on the agenda for anyone you're wooing. $10 drinks and 10-minute eleveator queue may initially dampen the mood, but the sleek interior of the lounge bodes well and the dining room still revolves slowly over the San Antonio skyline. A receipt guarantees a trip up to the observation deck.
Friendly staff and delicious Mexican cuisine.
Jean-Francois Poujol brings the comfortable finesse of Soleil Bistro downtown. Dishes such as rillettes de porc, escargots Bordelaise, and snapper a la tapenade, are both French Mediterranean and contemporary traveler, and you’ll find plenty of pairing options on the wine list.
Pete's appears to be furnished with the odd remnants from St. Anthony's previous eras, a charming room in a grand hotel. The pub offers a selection of beer and "fine spirits," and a limited menu of Italian subs, hot wings, and hamburgers.
