Texans are encouraged to vote for their favorite local restaurants that serve up delicious Tex-Mex fare. Out of the 20 nominations, Rosario's is currently ranked No. 13, La Fonda On Main at No. 12 and Garcia's Mexican Food at No. 11. San Antonio's top contender is Mi Tierra, which currently sits at No. 7.
The national newspaper prefaced its contest with some history, citing SA's "chili queens" who slung tamales and chili con carne, introducing locals and visitors alike to spicy food. USA Today even mentions The Original Mexican Food Restaurant's invention of the combo plate (with rice and beans), which has been around as far back as 1900.
Fans and foodies can vote once per day until voting ends on Monday, April 16.
