Despite having formed in 2006, it wasn’t until 2015 that, on the force of its well-received debut album Polyester Zeal, Akron-based hard-rock/alt-rock outfit Red Sun Rising burst onto the mainstream hard-rock scene. Up to that point, the band had, with workmanlike dedication, toured its home town, then its home state, all the while building up a following online and in real life. Then came national tours and, finally, the band’s break – a deal with the Razor & Tie label.

The band comes to San Antonio this weekend in support of its sophomore release Thread, which came out in March. The album’s first two singles, “The Otherside” and “Emotionless,” both managed to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart. Red Sun Rising, in other words, is showing no signs of slowing down or of falling into a slump after its initial success.

$15-$18, Sun May 27, 8pm, Paper Tiger, 2410 N. St. Mary’s St., papertigersatx.com.
