El Ojo, Latest St. Mary's Strip Bar, Opens Tonight

You may want to have your grandma rub you with an egg before you head out tonight — it's soft opening time for El Ojo, San Antonio's latest club, which also happens to be produced by one of its most prolific bar owners.

Danny Delgado and co. of Hi-Tones, Faust, Phantom Room, Lowcountry and Squeezebox (and the upcoming Buho) are opening El Ojo inside the former La Bikina.

The Phantom fire of 2016 set the construction of El Ojo back several months, but the two new projects are full speed ahead. With El Ojo, the bar owner says they'll take on a club-like project with obscure punk, 80s goth, and industrial music with XanaxFanClub (née John Michael Villanueva) kicking things off this Friday.

The 21-and-up club will be managed by Manny Gomez, who's manned the bar at Hi-Tones and Delgado's other bars for several years. Because of the club's size (capacity is 250), bartenders will focus on one-and-ones and canned beer for now.

Hours for El Ojo will be 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Wednesday through Sunday.

Delgado says Buho, a sports bar with food trucks on site and an ice house vibe, will also open later this month.
