Longtime Indie Rock Band Yo La Tengo Playing Paper Tiger

New Jersey’s beloved Yo La Tengo have effortlessly been so many things over the course of its consistently fruitful, frequently brilliant and joyfully unpredictable 34 years (and counting).

Yo La Tengo was an indie rock band before anyone used that term. They make warm and ambling music that has, over the years, spanned the gamut of genres from jazz and folk to psychedelic and garage rock, from lo-fi outsider pop to experimental extrapolations. And when the band is at its best, it is a bit of all of those things (and more) at once. On the veteran group’s most recent releases, 2015’s Stuff Like That There and this year’s There’s a Riot Going On, its 14th and 15th LPs respectively, the three-piece sounds as fresh, eclectic and innocently exploratory as ever.

Given that the live setting is where Yo La Tengo shines the brightest, this is not a show you’ll want to sleep on.
