It's Official: Barney Smith's Toilet Seat Art Museum is Leaving San Antonio

After decades in the making, Barney Smith's Toilet Seat Museum is set to evacuate Alamo Heights.

Earlier this year, Smith teased his retirement from the museum and said he was searching for a bidder that would take his entire collection of more than 1,400 toilet seats he decorated himself. The 97-year-old recently found that bidder in Truck Yard, an outdoor bar with locations in Dallas and Houston.

Truck Yard has plans for a third location north of Dallas and has its aesthetic all planned out — the toilet seat museum will adorn the bar.

"I'm happy that they're going to build a new building and keep my legacy going," Smith told KENS 5. "I've been working on this thing for about 65-75 years, day and night. And now I'm boxing it up in banana boxes."

Luckily, the museum won't officially move out of Alamo Heights right away. Instead, it will make its way to the Dallas area by late February. Smith said he will attend the bar's grand opening.
