After sitting vacant for a year, the straight-out-of-a-time-warp Olmos Pharmacy building at the corner of Hildebrand and McCullough Avenue has a new tenant.

Pizza restaurant Volare on Broadway will expand into the iconic structure that once housed a drug store and lunch counter renown for its whipped cream-topped milkshakes, according to MySanAntonio.com.

After the pharmacy closed in the mid-2000s, the building got a second lease as Olmos Pharmacy, a neighborhood grill and live music venue whose name played on the history of the original tenant.

According to the MySA report, Volare's owners will operate the former drug store as a second location, beefing up the menu to include carbonara, seafood and other non-pizza items. In contrast to Volare's BYOB Broadway location, this location will serve beer and wine.

Volare plans to open the new location in February.
