The San Marcos Police Department is investigating a suspected murder-suicide involving two Texas State University students.

On Sunday morning, police officers arrived at a San Marcos residence after a report of two deceased individuals, according to Texas State's student-run newspaper the University Star. A statement from the City of San Marcos said officers discovered one man's body with multiple gunshot wounds inside the home. Another man's body was found in the backyard with a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The newspaper identified the men as Matthew Bond Pfluger and Connor Patrick Shannon, both age 24. An initial investigation indicates that Pfluger shot Shannon before attempting to kill himself with a knife while still inside the home. He then went outside and shot himself in the head.

A friend of both Pfluger and Shannon discovered their bodies around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday and alerted police. The University Star reports that the two deceased men both lived at the home, attended Texas State and were close friends.
