Camp Artpace

Teenagers 13-17 participate in the Young Artists-in-Residence program where they learn new techniques in a one-on-one setting with some of SA’s most inspiring artist educators. Camp Showbiz 2011

2-Week Session

Introduce the young ones to the unlimited creativity of theater. Classes range from acting out princess adventures, to discovering your inner superhero, to learning how to form a rock band. Classes vary by age. All classes will have a final performance on the Saturday following the last day of the camp (July 5-July 15). 4-Week Session

Does your young one envision themselves on the set of Glee? This four-week camp will prepare young adults for the magic of the musical. Young thespians will rehearse and perform the “Phantom of the Alamo Jr.,” a one-of-a-kind adventure set in the future involving an evil empire, a mysterious phantom, and our favorite Texas landmark (July 5-July 29). Ages 10-17 (must have prior theater experience). $50 enrollment fee, $530, 9am-3pm Mon-Fri, Magik Theatre, 420 S Alamo, (210) 227-2751, magiktheatre.org.

Mulan, Jr.

Students aged 6-18 recreate a story of “culture, honor, and a fighting spirit” in the stage adaptation of Disney’s Mulan, with the direction of Woodlawn directors and choreographers. A $100 registration fee reserves a spot, with the remaining fee due on the first day of class. Black dance clothing and jazz shoes are required. Summer at The Rose Theatre Co.

The very nearly teenage can spend 32 hours casting, directing, and performing a One-Act Play at Tween Camp (July 11-15). DVC Jr. Camp is geared toward 8-15 year-olds with a knack for improv, where students write, cast, and direct their scenes before performing in “the only kids sketch show in San Antonio” (July 18-22). Students 13 and up will explore all styles of acting and theatre before the big final performance at Teen Camp (a one-minute monologue must be ready for the first day) (July 25-29). Musical Theatre Camp will close out the summer for those with a passion for dance and song (August 8-12). Summer at San Pedro Playhouse

Students create their own show from beginning to end, including making costumes and building sets, at Creativity Camp (June 27-July 15).
