Sometimes, as they say, “it’s lonely at the top;” so lonely that you just have to reach out into the technology-obsessed darkness and flash your junk à la Anthony Weiner. That’s essentially what Melinda Tomerlin Navarro, executive administrator of the Alamo and active member of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, did last year, sexting some graphic photos of her ladybits to an unnamed recipient, according to divorce documents filed last month. Yes, that’s right, unlike former U.S. congressman Weiner’s “good wife” Huma Abedin, who stood by her man during Weinergate, Navarro’s husband flipped when he found the photos on her smartphone last September, and did what every sane, rational human being would do: he forwarded them to his wife’s family, social, and work contacts, including the couple’s 16-year-old daughter. Needless to say, the following workday at the Alamo was awkward for Navarro, who immediately initiated divorce proceedings. Her out-of-work husband, who draws spousal support from Navarro’s $85,000 annual salary (now footed in part by the State of Texas), complied, but not without trying to rip everything, including joint custody of their two teenaged children, away from his wife, largely using the sexy pics and her desire to focus on an ascendant career as proof of her maternal failings.
Joke’s on him, as his plan to pin a scarlet letter on Navarro has been deemed more than a little antiquated by the counselor investigating the former couple’s child custody arrangement. “He is not past the wound to his ego to where he can think logically rather than emotionally about what his needs are or about what his children’s needs are,” wrote the evaluator. Even after the embarrassing incident, Karen Thompson, president of the DRT, stood by Navarro, acting as a reference during the custody investigation.
