I’ve dug Austin’s “spaghetti-surf” of the late ’90s, but I’ve never heard a whole concept album based on an imaginary movie Sergio Leone wished he had directed. What Brian Parrish (drummer for Saturday Night Satellites) and Randy Elliott (Mosquitohead) did with Apache ’65 is use surf music as an excuse to create an unpredictable soundtrack that has enough room for two vocal Mosquitohead covers and plenty of moody post-surf snippets in between songs. I hope they let it all explode live at Boneshakers on Friday, June 14, with the Copper Gamins and Australia’s 8 Ball Aiken. Download at apache65.bandcamp.com.
