Bike | Beat Celebrates San Antonio Bike Culture With Beer, BMX, Hacienda and More

Main Plaza Conservancy presents: Bike | Beat, a free event that bicycle aficionados, hobbyists, admirers and even the mildly curious need to be clearing their calendars for! From 5-11 p.m. Saturday, August 3, Bike | Beat will be hosting a plethora of awesome two-wheel oriented events, from live music by artists like Hacienda and Henry + the Invisibles to BMX demos by Rad Rides and equipment giveaways.

While professional BMXers do stunts on the quarter pipe and box jump in front of San Fernando Cathedral, the oldest continuously functioning religious community in Texas, food truck vendors like SAbores and Rockerdogz will provide spectacular Mexican food and what SAFlavor labeled, “not only...the best hot dogs you’ve ever had, but also some of the best grub in the Alamo City.”

Blue Star Brewing Co. and Beer Garden will be there with New Belgium to help you battle the heat with a cold bottle o’ hops and New Belgium will be holding a Fat Tire Bike Giveaway! Blue Star Brewing Co. will be doing Roller Races, where participants put the pedal to the metal on stationary bikes and the computers go to work in a synthetic Tour de France-like race.

Bike | Beat is dedicated to educating the community “of a life on two wheels,” promoting a healthier, safer lifestyle and all the fun of being a part of the biking community. Vendors will be selling everything from cycle-based artwork and fashion to bike accessories and gear, not to mention helmet and bike light giveaways while supplies last.

Other vendors will be there to perform a bit of bicycle edumacatin’ including safety courses and bike handling and maintenance. If you’re not much of a do it yourself-er, Popo’s We-Cycle will be there to do free minor repairs and tune-ups on your bike!

As the sun sets, festivities will continue with a Cycle-in Cinema pedal-powered slideshow of their recent photography contest, all about biking in San Antonio, and a winner will be announced. Everyone in attendance has the chance to sign up for a turn on the Pedal Power SA bike which powers the screen to help keep the show going!

Open to all ages and fun for everyone, whether what you're into is cycling, food, music, art or crazy BMX stunts, Bike | Beat has something to make your night. Free, Main Plaza 115 Main Ave. Aug. 3, 5-11pm, http://mainplaza.org/280833.html
