5 Dishes to Celebrate National Hot and Spicy Food Day

January 15 is National Hot and Spicy Food Day and what better way to celebrate than getting your hands on a three pepper hamburger, a pizza deemed the Diablo, El Bucanero’s three sauces or a tamal packed with ghost peppers. If you’re brave, try any of these fiery tastings:

1. Chunky’s Burgers and More’s (4602 Callaghan) 4 Horsemen Burger: A time limit of 25 minutes is given to finish the burger which contains fresh jalapeño and Serrano peppers, Habanero sauce and the ghost pepper.

2. Gallo Pizzeria’s (164 Castroville) Diablo Pizza: Topped with diced habanero, jalapeño, ghost peppers and Diablo sauce, this pizza packs a zesty, flavorful bite.

3. El Bucanero’s (16505 Blanco) Sauces: El Bucanero’s bold Chipotle, Avocado and Poblano and Habanero sauces will liven up your dish with heat and flavor.

4.Delicious Tamales’s (1330 Culebra) Atomic Tamale: The Atomic Tamale, just as the name suggests is full of scorching energy that will excite your taste buds. This delicacy debuted at Tamales! Holiday Celebration at the Pearl, but owner Valerie Gonzalez says they're still developing the recipe for mass production.

5. Thai Bistro and Sushi’s (5999 De Zavala) Tom Yam Soup: A Thailand staple, the Tom Yam soup is a hot and sour broth with mushrooms and chili that will open your sinuses right up. Be sure to order it extremely spicy with four chili peppers.
