Nina Diaz out on her own at the Belmont
Nina Diaz, frontwoman for SA's Girl in a Coma, begins her month-long residency at the Belmont (305 W 6th) this week, performing the first of three concerts in June. Along with guitarist Travis Vela, keyboardist Justin Ramirez, bassist Justin Carney and drummer Jorge Gonzalez, Diaz will play the solo material from her forthcoming album.
Active with Girl in a Coma since 2006, the band has become one of SA's most lauded acts, opening for Morrissey, earning nods from NPR and the Independent Music Awards.
Recently returning from El Paso's Sonic Ranch recording studio, Wednesday's show will feature new music from Diaz in singer-songwriter form. Also on the bill is Austin indie quartet The Painted Redhearts. On June 18, Diaz and co. will play with folk-tronic Little Brave and with Hunter Wood Sharpe on the June 25.
