If you’ve been watching SA-based Italian chef Luca Della Casa compete on Food Network Star, you may have noticed how much more compelling reality television competitions can be when there’s a talented local worth rooting for. Rising 27-year-old designer Samantha Plasencia is poised to double our cable-watching/nail-biting pleasure as a contestant on Season 13 of Project Runway, which begins airing on Lifetime at 8 p.m. Thursday, July 24.
Thanks to the enthusiastic voters who fuel the Current’s Best of San Antonio issue, we’ve been aware of Plasencia since she tied for third place in the category of Best Local Designer back in 2011. When Plasencia won first place the following year, I reached out to her with a few questions before writing the capsule above.
Since then, the Current’s been keeping track of Plasencia and her increasingly tight collections for Fashion Week San Antonio, the most recent of which she presented at the Aztec Theatre (above).
