Recently opened: China Sea Super Buffet has a new location at 9919 Colonial behind Mama Margie's near I-10 West. Menu items include chicken with broccoli, sweet and sour chicken, Chinese biscuits, crab nuggets, and sesame chicken. For information, call 696-8787.
Ajuua Mexican Restaurant is among the growing number of businesses in the new shopping center at Huebner and Vance Jackson. The restaurant includes standbys such as enchiladas and tortilla soup as well as cocktail de camaron - cold boiled shrimp with tomato sauce. Dinner offerings include a filete a la Veracruzana, chile poblano with cilantro, and steak marinated in pineapple and orange juices. Lunch is Monday-Friday, 11 am - 3 pm, and menu items include tacos de fajita and flautas.
Recently re-opened: The Koffee Kup, 1025 Donaldson, has operated intermittently since the coffeehouse's start-up in July 2002. New owners have recaffeinated the Jefferson area with a new menu featuring coffees, Italian ices, sandwiches, pizzas, and vegetarian items. Hours are 7am-8pm Mon-Sat and 9am-4pm Sun.
Under new management: Taco aficionados should take note that Maria Carrizales, former manager of Taco Taco at the corner of Hildebrand and McCullough has moved on - but not far - to the Casablanca Grill at 4112 San Pedro, just north of Olmos. Casablanca uses vegetable oil or shortening - no animal fat -in their food, which should make lardo-phobics happy. www.casablancagrill.com

Chunky monkey ice cream ...
Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shop is hosting a grand opening/benefit at their first San Antonio location at the corner of Crockett and Presa streets (street level) on September 26. Proceeds will go the Boys and Girls Club of San Antonio and the Children's Museum. Kids can enjoy face painting, balloon sculpturing, and appearances by the San Antonio Spurs' Coyote, the San Antonio Missions' Henry the Puffy Taco and Ballapeño, and Waffles the Ice Cream Cone. A $3 parking fee is available for customers at the Market Street Garage, and they will also receive discount coupons to the Children's Museum.
... and crawfish pie
The 24th annual Cajun Festival will be held on September 25 from 11:30am to 10pm in the Lakehills Civic Center at Medina Lake. Feast on crawfish pies, boudin, sausage and ham jambalaya, crawfish etoufee, red beans and rice, cajun popcorn shrimp, fried catfish, bread pudding with whisky sauce, and pecan tarts. Drinks include beer, wine, margaritas, tea, and soft drinks.
The Bruce Daigrepont Cajun Band, the Band-Aids Jazz Band, Mike Pollack and the Swamp Angels, and Cajun Joe Douglas, aka the "Bayou Boss," will perform. Other activities include the Great Gumbo Cook-off, dance lessons, arts, crafts, and games. Admission is $7.
