Hell on wheels:
Bikes and San Antonio don't mix as any cyclist who's been brushed by a Hummer - or a Geo - can tell you. A bike survey conducted by UTSA and the Texas Department of Transportion is soliciting opinions concerning how to make SA more bike-friendly. Banning cars is not an option; nor is banning bikes.
The polls ask about bicyclists' riding habits, routes they use, and routes they would ride on if they weren't gauntlets of death. Go to transanalysisconsultants.com/bike_survey/ to participate.

June is traditionally the most popular month for weddings, unless you're gay or lesbian living in an unenlightened state such as Texas. In honor of gay and lesbian couples, the Lesbian/Gay Rights Lobby of Texas and the Happy Foundation Gay Archives of San Antonio are sponsoring a Wedding Cake Liberation Event on Thursday, June 16, from 5-8 p.m. at the Joan Grona Gallery in the Blue Star Arts Complex, Alamo and Probandt streets.
LGRL Executive Director Randall Ellis speaks at 6:30 p.m. about the November statewide referendum, in which voters will be asked to decide whether to amend the Texas constitution to prohibit same-sex marriage.

If you want to ensure the public can't participate in the governmental process, hold the meetings in the remotest place possible. The Kelly Restoration Advisory Board meets Tuesday, June 14, at a new location on the former Kelly Air Force Base, 485 Quentin Roosevelt Road, Room 723. For those familiar with the old base, this was once known as Building 171. For those unfamiliar with the old base, leave early for the 6:30 p.m. meeting, lest you find yourselves wandering around old runways.
The RAB, which convenes quarterly to discuss the progress of the environmental cleanup at the former Kelly Air Force Base, formerly held public meetings at Kennedy High School.

Unless you wash them in color-fast Tide. The peaceCENTER holds its second annual Flag-Washing on Sunday, June 12, from 2-4 p.m. The event includes a discussion about patriotism and an information session about establishing a U.S. Department of Peace.
