Straight 6 Films presents King of Bluegrass, a documentary about Jimmy Martin, bluegrass' rebel child, and his lifelong quest to become a member of the Grand Ole Opry cast `see "Pickin' and fightin'," July 7-13, 2005`. A 20-minute documentary about the legendary Chicago-based honky-tonk band The Sundowners will also screen. Show starts at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 14, at the Blue Star Brewing Co., 1414 S. Alamo. Wanted: CAM Film Slam Entries
The National Association of Latino Independent Producers - San Antonio is accepting submissions for a curated film slam July 23 at the Apollo Playhouse. Filmmakers may submit short, experimental works 10 minutes or fewer in length. A panel of local filmmakers will select 15 films to be screened at the slam. For almost a decade, the Detroit-based Funk Brothers were the mostly unheralded beat and soul of Motown. Director Paul Justman worked even longer to reunite the musicians and bring their music and story to the screen. The film screens at 7:30 pm, Tuesday, July 19, at the Bijou at Crossroads Theatre. Manhattan Short Film Festival Showcase
One week ahead of the 2005 Manhattan Short Film Festival in New York, Urban-15 is screening the winners of the 2003 and 2004 events, curated by MSFF Director Ken Mason. The screenings include films by the 12 finalists selected each year from more than 600 international entries. Showtimes at 8 and 10 p.m. July 15 and 16, Urban-15, 2500 South Presa.
