At Lulu’s, the all-night diner of last resort on Main, I was propositioned by the early Brandon Lee-before-his-success/death-with-the-Crow waiter:
"You want to download some quality new movie releases before they get to video?"
Seems like this guy had the ins on a website, and had downloaded the movie 300, which he’d watched 4 times already.
“Such good quality,” he says kissing his fingers like an Italian gourmet promising finger-licking putanesca.
“4 stars all over, delicious,” he says about the movie quality, certainly not Lulu's.
Naturally, we get into conversation about the Bush administration using 300 as propaganda for invading Iran – the Greeks vs. Persians (aka Iranians) dynamic set up in the movie.
“I don’t think the Greeks were that white,” the waiter will concede, but the movie is a graphic novel, penned in the late 90s, and remade word-for-word on screen, he insists. What did this have to do with making military adventurism in the Mid East possible?
