Early voting started Monday, and the City Clerk can expect half the ballot take to come in before the May 12 general election. San Antonio’s election is important — offering our 1.4 million citizenry (by recent estimates) input on City Council, Mayor, and the $550-million citywide bond and school bonds, among other region specific elections. (Bexar Met Water District candidates: Save your receipts so you can return campaign materials, ‘cause the state lege has their water guns out, ready to dissolve the district.) Still, the campaign season has been as riveting as watching TransGuide TV, whose rotating cameras give a hazy view of the city’s freeway traffic. Facing a dearth of competitive races and sexy propositions, the real unknown factor in this election is SA’s chronic killjoy, voter apathy. What’s there to get up for in this election?
