Girl in a Coma has taken a short break from touring to play a couple of SA shows, including a July 7 welcome-home gig at Ruta Maya and a slot on the Vans Warped Tour’s July 13 blowout at Verizon Wireless. After that performance, the trio will play Warped shows in Houston and Atlanta and make select stops in the south before heading to the West Coast.
Meanwhile, the band’s Blackheart Records debut album, Both Before I’m Gone, recently scaled the top 45 of CMJ’s album chart and the group has won some high-profile admirers. Los Angeles radio institution Rodney Bingenheimer has placed two of their songs in rotation, and catty gossip monger Perez Hilton has posted a link to the band’s “Road to Home” video, starring transsexual star Amanda Lepore, on his Web site.
Hardcore Run-Ins
The Final Run-Ins are the kind of hardcore band that is at least as comfortable plugging in at an art space as in a punk club, and the New York trio will prove the point with two SA shows this weekend: a Friday, July 13 gig at Artpace’s Hudson Show Room (445 N. Main Ave.) at 9 p.m., and a Contemporary Art Month performance on Saturday, July 14 at Unit B (500 Stieren Street) to celebrate the opening of their punk-rock poster exhibition. The Run-Ins’ furious, tightly wound, start-stop assault — best demonstrated on songs such as “I Hate You” and “You’re On Your Own” — should spin some heads around at both events.
The band’s Nathan Carter is also an accomplished multi-media artist, and the Run-Ins’ Artpace gig will set the stage for a Carter exhibition which will come to the Hudson Show Room on October 25 and run until January.
