Last Monday, the poetry community lost one of their own — raúlrsalinas. raúlrsalinas was San Antonio-born, but drifted across the U.S., Austin was his final resting place. He lived a rough life. Being jailed in California for 15 years set the stage for his life of dedication to social issues. He took up writing while incarcerated. His poem, “Un Trip through a Mind Jail,” was his most well-known work. It’s been included in poetry collections and will stand as a tribute to the plight of Chicanos all over the world.
Services for raúlrsalinas were held this past weekend, and we’re sure the local poetry community will hold tributes to him in the coming weeks. We’ll keep you posted.
As we mourn the loss of one artist, we praise the first steps toward greatness for another. Trinity University student Stephen Brown’s comedy Man Talk is being produced by AtticRep and will be showing Thursday through Saturday. Brown not only produced the play, but has cast and directed it.
The Houston native is an undergrad at Trinity but has already written plays performed in California. In April, another of his works will be featured in the New York American Globe Theatre’s short-play festival.
