This past weekend, A-B headed up the road to the Roaring Fork, the newest outpost of the Eddie V’s empire, located at 1604 and Huebner, next door to its seafood sibling, Wildfish Grill. And we did feast, the highlights of the meal being the house pride-n-joy Green Chile Pork Stew and a really fine margarita.
If late July’s frequently brutal heat doesn’t squelch your taste for wine, take a day trip to Messina Hof Winery in Bryan, Texas, which took Best in Show at the 2008 San Antonio Inernational Wine Competition. The winery’s annual Harvest Festival runs through August 15, offering you several affordable opportunities to pick, stomp, eat lunch, and take home a T-shirt. $40-70 Saturdays and Sundays.
If you prefer full leisure, attend one of the Friday evening Vintner’s Dinners; the July 25 event is themed French Chateau Wines, and prices range from $70-125/per person, plus tax and tip. If you prefer a little camp with your outing, go on Saturday instead for a Murder Mystery Dinner. This week’s episode, titled “Celebrity Celebrations,” gets underway at 6:30 p.m. and dishes up mystery and a meal for only $70/apiece. Call (800) 736-9463 ext. 34 to register or visit messinahof.com.
