Act One: in which a pseudo-classically plucked guitar riff meets cute with a twisted neo-primitive drum pattern. They make for an awkward couple at first, but soon discover an idiosyncratic chemistry. Just as they seem settled, though, distorted and increasingly desperate-sounding vocals push into the foreground and spur the climax. The drums quicken to semi-automatic bursts, and the guitars are briefly overtaken by keyboards in a nail-biting fight to the finish. Look for an unexpected cameo in the leisurely dénouement. (Spoiler: It’s a couple of hand claps. Blink, and you’ll miss them.)
