S'NUFF film

This week in film news (yes, that’s actually what this column is supposed to be covering): Well, there’s this film festival you may have heard about (everything you want to know is in the story to the left), but there’s less festive stuff going on, I suppose. Slab Cinema’s breaking out the golden-age Tom Hanks at HemisFair Park Thursday, June 25, with an 8:30 p.m. screening of Big. Bring lawn chairs, cash for concessions, and for the love of God one of those giant pianos you can hop around on. Zoltar commands it.

If you prefer your man-children creepier and closer to home, check out TPR’s Cinema Tuesdays (tpr.org/articles/cinema.html) 7:30 p.m. screening of Pee-wee’s Big Adventure, in which San Antonio gets pretty thoroughly mocked by a registered sex offender in a freaking bowtie. Tickets are $10 for members, $12 otherwise. If you’d rather see something that’s not playing on basic cable, try Sam’s Burger Joint (330 E. Grayson) Tuesday for the second installment of Sam’s Video Jam, which isn’t dropping any names but promises to screen “one of a kind movies that you won’t see anywhere else in San Antonio.” Only those 18 and older will be admitted, but admission is free, and there will be hamburgers and beer for sale.
