The Sound & The Fury

It’s been two years since irresistibly weird local band Not the Government left San Anto for LA, but they keep returning for a Christmas show that’s becoming a holiday staple in this column. This time they play on December 26 at the Ten Eleven (1011 Ave B, (210) 320-9080), with “a set consisting of brand-new material, with a more stripped down, aggressive approach,” according to an email sent by drummer Jay. “No more keyboards; just vocals, guitar, bass, and drums.” Last year they played with Girl in a Coma, but this year’s guests remain unknown.

And a big Devo alert this week: The Ultra DEVO-lux Ltd. Edition box is out on December 22, complete with remastered versions of the artsy Ohio synth-popsters’ first and third albums (the Brian Eno-produced Q: Are We not Men? A: We Are Devo, and the self-produced Freedom of Choice), plus a rarities DVD, live EP, and even a 7-inch vinyl single of “Jocko Homo”/”Mongoloid.” It goes for $49.99, and it’s only available at
