The Sound & They Fury

It took me a while to get used to smoke-free Luna’s new set-up, but it works: You can now see and hear the band perfectly, no matter where you sit. If you don’t believe me, join Cedric Burnside (the grandson of R.L. Burnside) and Lightnin’ Malcolm for a night of Delta blues two-guitar attack (Friday, January 15; Luna is located at 6740 San Pedro, 9:30 p.m., $10, 21 & over).

Remember prog rock? It’s alive and well, thanks to artsy metal bands like North Carolina’s Between the Buried And Me. Their latest album (The Great Misdirect) came out in October and they play Wednesday, January 13, at the White Rabbitt (2410 N. St. Mary’s, $16-$18, all ages, (210) 737-2221). Don’t be intimidated by their growling 15-minute opuses: These guys are pretty eclectic, and I’m curious to see how they sound live.

Broke? No problem: There’s a quality free event on Sunday, January 15: Texan singer-songwriter and globetrotter Vanessa Peters and Danish MC Hansen will perform on the patio of Tycoon Flats (St. Mary’s and Woodlawn, 5 p.m.; to be moved inside if weather demands).
