The Sound & the Fury

Saturday is party time. Viet Ruse is celebrating the release of their new EP (read our review, page 54) 9 p.m. Saturday at Hausman Millworks (925 W. Russell). Admission is $2, or free with food or clothing donation to Inner City Development — and don’t tell your mom, but there’s gonna be a keg.

Jason Gerard is commemorating his birthday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Java Nook Coffee House (600 Soledad, adjoined to the Central Library), and admission is absolutely free to that shindig — you don’t have to donate shit.

On top of that, you’ve got the Battle of the Bands at Hot Tin Roof (see page 41 for more), which is like a bitchin’ party in your ears — one that a lot of people you wouldn’t have invited found out about somehow (we suspect your friend Randy). Some of the gatecrashers will be total dickweeds, but a few at least will probably be pretty cool.

But if you were planning on driving up to Gruene on Sunday for the Jerry Jeff Walker Texas Bash, don’t bother, ’cause it’s sold out. You can still get tickets to his show Saturday in Austin, but why the hell would you wanna go there? “Mr. Bojangles” sounds like the soundtrack to one damn depressing party. — Jeremy Martin
